EDUCATION IS EVERYONE'S BUSINESS
Support The Met Dollars for Scholars® Fund
Every year, Met graduates struggle to close the gap between the scholarships and loans they receive for college and the financial contributions their families are able to make.  The Met Dollars for Scholars Fund was established to help narrow that gap.  Operated by an all volunteer Board of Directors, the purpose of The Met Dollars for Scholars Fund is to expand access to educational opportunities by involving and assisting our community in the support of Met graduates, and in the encouragement of their educational achievement.
Membership in the Dollars for Scholars Program ensures that our Met scholarship dollars are used appropriately when sent to participating colleges and universities.  These schools agree to apply our scholarship checks directly to a student’s unmet need, rather than use it to reduce the amount of free, institutional money.  Some participating schools go one step further and match our DFS award with their own money.   In 2006, The Met Dollars for Scholars Fund awarded $65,000.00 in scholarships.  An additional $5,600 was awarded to our students through the matching partners program.
In the past ten years, our scholarship program has evolved into a dynamic portfolio of opportunities available to students.  Alumni awards are made available to students entering their sophomore, junior or senior years in college. There are donor-specific scholarships that highlight specific achievements in art and education, as well as senior gifts to help students purchase books and supplies during their first semester. For more information about oour Met DFS Scholarship Awards, download and print the 2007 Met DFS Scholarship award packet.
Currently, our Board of Directors includes Nancy Diaz (President), Matthew Buchanan (Vice-President), Sue Gibbs (Treasurer) and Jennifer Killenberg (Secretary).  In addition to these offices, The Met DFS is assisted by the Director of College and Transition, Don Fraser, and the Director of Alumni Relations, Khalie Nunez.  The board meets on a monthly basis to monitor the progress of our annual fundraising goal and oversee the school scholarship process.
Please consider making a gift to The Met Dollars for Scholars Fund and help our alumni pursue college.  Or, consider asking your organization or company to establish a scholarship for Met students that would continue to impact their lives for years to come.  All donations to The Met Dollars for Scholars Fund are fully tax deductible as allowed by the I.R.S.  Our annual fund drive ends June 30, 2007.  Every dollar counts!
